The CellGate Halo Reader: Enter with a Card, Fob, or Bluetooth

Apr 20, 2026  |  Support Resource, Readers

The CellGate Halo reader lets residents and employees enter with a card, a fob, or their phone over Bluetooth. This shows both ways in, including the Bluetooth background-access step that makes touchless entry work.

Card or fob

Tap your credential card or fob flat against the Halo and hold it still for one to two seconds. Watch for a light or beep, the buttons become active and the entry point unlocks.

Bluetooth

  1. Download the CellGate app.
  2. Open the menu, tap Access Credentials, then Bluetooth Access.
  3. When prompted, allow CellGate to use Bluetooth.
  4. Tap Enable Bluetooth Background Access, the step to not skip, since without it the reader will not see your phone unless the app is open.
  5. To enter, keep the phone on you and wave it in front of the Halo.

Visitors can be sent a Visitor Pass instead of a permanent credential.
